In this episode we take a look at the top configuration of the Alienware m17 R2 gaming laptop, featuring an Intel i9-9980HK CPU, an Nvidia RTX 2080 MAX-Q GPU with 8 GB of video RAM and 2x 512 GB NVME drives in RAID 0 configuration. Finally, the laptop is equipped with 16 GB DDR4-2666MHz, which cannot be upgraded. The only thing you can replace is the pair of SSDs if you wish to upgrade the storage capacity.
The high-end m17 R2 comes with a 144Hz IPS FHD panel, the same used in the Alienware Area 51m model. There are absolutely no PWM flickering issues in this panel, once you start lowering its brightness and the colors are highly accurate, after calibrating it. The max brightness is over 310 nits, but the contrast ratio doesn’t exceed 1000:1.
This is a great gaming and low weight laptop, which will have no problem running all contemporary games at full detail in FHD. Nonetheless, it costs a bomb, in its top-configuration. If you have the money to get one, it should be on your list.
