If you wanted a good ultrabook, you’re probably limited to a MacBook. The main reason is consistency. Only Apple can create a MacBook but a Windows ultrabook could be created by anyone.
In 2017, Microsoft introduced the Surface product line-up. Finally, Microsoft who created Windows made a Windows laptop and it was for the Windows purist at heart.
The Surface Laptop 3 is their third attempt at the PC market, so how does it fair?
You have to admit that this is one of the best looking Windows laptop out there. It’s simple and minimalist, and with the addition of a new black color, it just a thing of beauty.
But the ports are still lacking. Coming with only one USB 3.0, one Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, it still lacked ports which you’ll have to resort to using a dongle.
The screen still maintains the 3-by-2 aspect ratio which is great for word processing and browsing the internet.
However, the keyboard could do with more travel distance as it feels rather odd but it’s just a preference thing.
It comes with a Ryzen 5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 250GB of internal storage. It’s perfect for doing work but play a simple game like Magic The Gathering Arena and it starts slowing down. It also doesn’t help that it heats up quite a bit to the point it throttles the performance.
But aside from that, it has no lags, crashes, or slowdowns throughout our usage.
It’s extremely satisfying to use a laptop that can last 8 hours. You can literally keep the charger at home and go to work and still come back with some battery to last.
If you do run out of battery, the charging adapter is so small that it’s not a hassle at all to carry it around.
Keep up with tradition, the charging adapter has a USB port to charge your other devices. But it’s slow and you might be better of using your device’s charger instead.
Overall, this is the company’s best attempt at a purist Windows laptop, and it should only get better from here on.
